The Dish Network 522 satellite receiver contains 2 individual tuners in one box. The Dish Player 522 DVR has two operating modes. In Single mode the 522 can be used as a dual tuner DVR for one television. This provides Picture-In-Picture (PIP) capabilities on PIP compatible televisions. In Dual Mode, this dual tuner, two remote setup allows for independent control and viewing of television channels from two locations. The 2nd UHF remote gives the user the ability to change channels from the 2nd television location.

The DVR (digital video recorder) allows for 100% digital recording of your favorite television shows.With two tuners you can record two shows at the same time, or watch one show while recording another, or record two shows and watch a third pre-recorded show from the hard drive. The 120 gigabyte inernal hard drive provides up to 100 hours of digital video recording. The actual number of hours of recording time you achieve will depend the type of shows you record. Fast moving action such as sports and action movies will lower that time. However, the 120 gigbyte hard drive is the largest in the satellite DVR business. Compared to DirecTVs TIVO 40 or 80 gigabyte hard drives which provide 32-80 hours, the 100 hour hard drive is a new benchmark for others to match.

Two satellite tuners provide user-selected viewing options, including: Single Mode2: Picture-In-Picture (PIP) on any TV.

Dual Mode: Separate television program viewing/recording on two televisions. Users share all recordings.

DISH Video-On-Demand Service provides the ability to pause live TV, play, stop, fast forward and fast reverse at 4 speeds (4x, 15x, 60x, 300x), skip forward (30 seconds), skip back (10 seconds), view in slow motion or frame-by- frame, set manual/auto record event timers and quick record, and also includes recorded events management features to play, delete or protect a recorded event.

Record Plus - allows viewers to choose recording location for increased flexibility. Two viewers in dual mode can each record a live program while watching a pre-recorded program from the hard drive.

TV1" operates via infra red remote control commands; "TV2" operates via UHF Pro remote control commands.

One Infrared (IR) 4-component universal remote control - controls "TV1" (the room with the DISH 322 receiver). Can be programmed to operate (via IR) up to three additional components.

One UHF Pro/IR configurable 4-component universal remote control. Controls "TV2" (second TV location) when configured for UHF Pro (blue key); can control "TV1" if configured for IR (green key).

Configured as "TV2" UHF Pro remote, it controls satellite receiver up to 200 feet away through walls and other obstructions. It can be programmed to operate (via IR) up to three additional components, such as TVs, VCR's and DVD players.
